p>Between 1816 & 1872 the Wey & Arun Junction Cana
l formed the final link in a chain of inland water
ways connecting London to the English Channel at L
ittlehampton\; this walk introduces participants t
o a stretch of canal at Birtley\, south of Bramley
\, which is being restored as a new amenity for vi
sitors.\n \n A circular walk\, fully segreg
ated from motor traffic\, beginning and ending at
Birtley Courtyard. The route includes part of the
alignment of the former Guildford-Horsham railway
line (Downs Link path) and canal towpath reinstate
d by the Wey & Arun Canal Trust (WACT) including t
wo Dutch-style lifting bridges. This latter sectio
n is not a right-of-way\, but WACT offers it as a
permissive path.
