AGM

The AGM on19th October was well attended by the membership.  The first part of the meeting covered the formal proceedings and a presentation of the accounts.

After the break for refreshments, Bill Nicholson gave a presentation on the new towpath at Bonfire Hanger and Margaret Darvill summarised progress on our priority projects.  Tony Ford reported that we are now preparing to commission construction work for the re-routed canal crossing at Tickner's Heath which will require significant funding.

Report and Presentations
What is it?

Is it a bird, is it a plane?  No, It is a Bamford 7RTC Tractor Trailer mower.  You will find it beside the new Bonfire Hanger towpath re-purposed as a bench.

Nigel Gibbons came across it amongst other vintage agricultural machinery.  Luke and Jake Coventry restored it to its current pristine condition.  It is there for passers by to rest their weary legs and admire the transformation of this section of the canal by the many dedicated volunteers involved.

Working Party News

Bill Nicholson has been hard at it with a visiting working group on a new pump chamber below Baldwin's Knob lock.  As you can see, there is considerable ground work involved.  The chamber and inlet pipe were successfully completed.  The pump, electrics and outlet pipe will follow. This work is key to restoring navigation down to Drungewick lock.

A visiting Forestry Group has been helping us with taking down the dead and dying ash trees between Brewhurst and Balwin's Knob locks.  the felled timber is being transported to the log store with its newly finished and very smart roof.

Pauline

Here is Pauline ready for the winters dredging after some tender loving care over the summer  -  BUT NOT QUITE.

Charlie Coxwell is looking for 2 or 3 dredgermen/women to enable the winter operations to take place.

You have always wanted to get your hands on an excavator (and this is a sub-aqua one!).  Why not improve your skillset to enable you to dig that fishpond?   Get in touch and we will pass your details to Charlie.

Autumn Wildlife

Dave Verall took this striking photo of a Grey Heron near Gennets Bridge Lock in early November.

Each month we see ever more evidence that the canal really is a green corridor for our native fauna and flora  -  a prime aim of the Trust.

What have you seen and photographed recently?  Send us a photo for next month's Newsletter.
