To appreciate the all the work completed and planned, take a look at the drone video taken by Robin Gardner.  The video starts over the southern site of the lock to be built in Phase 3 and takes you north over the work completed as part of Phase 1 including the new bridge.  It then continues north where you will see the start of bank works in Phase 2.

Our combined Appeal for Phase 1 and 2 is now within £62,800 of our target for full funding, with further generous donations from our supports pushing the fund past £500,000.

We would like to thank all those who have made donations to ensure this project can continue to make rapid progress.

Last month we reported that we have been nominated for a King's Award for Volunteers.  Margaret Darvill was at the nomination ceremony presided over by Michael More-Molyneux, Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Surrey

A BBQ for volunteers was held at the end of August.  It was great to bring so many people together in the lovely summer sunshine and celebrate the significant progress we have made this year.

Phil Short and his team were present at the Surrey Wood Fair.  During the weekend a steady stream of people visited the MDV and were briefed on the restoration of the canal.  As well as donations, funds were raised by the sale of bags of wood.  The 'drive a digger'  proved very popular.  Few were able to resist the blandishments of Roger Beazer!
A big thank you to Keith Lyall for organising and running the event with the help of a team of volunteers.

Our Annual General Meeting (see formal notice on the link below) will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday 17th October 2026 at Pulborough Village Hall, Swan View, Pulborough RH20 2BF.

 All members are welcome.  We will be providing an update on our current projects and outlining our plans for 2027.

After fitting stop planks, the Thursday Group have started to drain the section of canal from Birtley Bridge1 to the site of the old bonfire so that the new canal cut from Rooks Hill Bridge can be connected to this in-water section. 

There was so much weed and accumulated debris that some team members had to don waders to keep clearing the pump inlet filter.

The Dredger Group have been busy despite the sweltering summer.  Much needed maintenance work has been carried out on the spud legs, solar power and internal storage.  Pauline is now resplendent in her 3 coats of hull blacking and re-painted topsides and deck.  A busy season of dredging awaits - when we have some more water!
