Following approval of its planning application, the Wey & Arun Canal Trust is working on a new restoration project south of Bramley in Surrey. The site is at Rooks Hill and extends for 800 metres south from a recently restored section at Birtley Green.
Phase I will see the construction of a bridge over which the Greensand Way will cross the canal. Along with the bridge, the banks and canal cut to the south of the bridge alongside Fanesbridge Cottage will be created and a culvert under the canal will be repaired. Phase 2 will create the new canal extension from Birtley down to the new bridge.
The costs of phase 1 and 2 are estimated at £565,000k. Following generous donations to our phase 1 appeal and the award of CIL funding to cover 80% of phase 2, we need to raise a further £77,635 to fully fund phase 1 and 2.
Thank you to all those who have already donated.
More information on the project can be found on our restoration pages.
