What is the Annual Sponsored Walk?
The Wey & Arun Canal Trust, which is working hard to restore 23 miles of navigable waterway linking the River Arun at Pallingham to the River Wey at Shalford, organises a sponsored walk each year. This is the Trust’s most important fundraising event and makes a vital contribution to pushing the restoration effort forward.
Registration is now open (click here)
Who can do it?
Almost anyone, with the exception of the very young, infirm and pushchairs as the walk has some stiles. Dogs are welcome, especially if sponsored!
Enquiries to poddle@weyarun.org.uk if you have any queries or would like to receive a sponsor form.

The Route
-
This year’s walk will start and finish in the Sussex Restaurant at the Brinsbury College Campus which is on the A29, 2 miles south of Billingshurst. The route passes through some of the farm land used by Brinsbury and thence to Hill Farm from where there are some very fine views of both the North and South Downs, also a quarry which supplied stone for building some of the canal’s locks and bridges. The walk continues to the ancient bridge at Stopham, continuing to the charming hamlet of Stopham thence to Fittleworth Village Hall where lunch is provided. A distance of approx’ 6 miles.
After lunch the walk continues through Fittleworth Wood, then joins the Wey South Path to the canal at Lee Farm Causeway. From there we follow the towpath via Haybarn Swing Bridge to Lee Place Bridge then returning to Brinsbury along a country lane and footpaths, a distance of approx’ 7 miles. There will be refreshment stops at the midway points on the morning and afternoon routes.
If walking isn’t for you, why not ...
