Two opportunities to double a fiver

There are opportunities on Wednesday, January 28th and Wednesday, February 25th to make money for the Trust on the Localgiving website.
The Trust had an excellent result from the January #GiveMe5 initiative and is now looking forward to the next opportunity to make money via the Localgiving website, on Wednesday, February 25th.
We had 30 donations of £5 on Wednesday, January 28th, 14 of which were selected to be doubled. This is an excellent result for the Trust, on a day when 1,000 donations were chosen for match funding. Our grateful thanks to all those who gave us a fiver.
The campaign will double another 1,000 donations made throughout the 24 hours of February 25th. Again, every £5 donation made to a charity through Localgiving will be placed into a draw and 1,000 will be selected to be doubled with £5 of match funding. With Gift Aid added, that adds up to £12.50.
Donations of other amounts will not be included in the draw and the promotion applies only to one-time donations, not monthly direct debits. But donors can make as many £5 donations over 24 hours as they wish and there is no limit to the amount of match funding any single group can receive.
Localgiving’s Grow Your Tenner initiative continues to benefit the Trust magnificently, with our grand total for the campaign standing at £6,871.25 at the end of January. Our £10 direct debits will carry on being doubled until they have been match funded six times.

Grow Your Tenner

More Local Giving success - Donations increased on Triple Tenner Tuesday
Nineteen people kindly donated at least £10 to the Trust via Localgiving.com on Triple Tenner Tuesday and seven of their tenners were turned into £30. The gifts were among 1,000 donations randomly selected on Tuesday, December 2 to receive £20 matchfunding.
Throughout the day, we raised a total of £377.50, including Gift Aid and matchfunding. Altogether, the charities which receive money through Localgiving.com raised a total of £75,736 in 24 hours, in a campaign designed to contrast with the consumer excesses of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
More matchfunding events will be run on Localgiving.com throughout 2015, so we will keep you informed of these opportunities to bring in bonus money for the Trust.
Under the website’s Grow Your Tenner matchfunding, we had raised £4,018.75 at the beginning of December. The total will go up to more than £5,000 by the time all our direct debit donations, matchfunding and Gift Aid are collated.
The donations deadline has passed, but our monthly direct debits are still doubling tenners with matchfunding.
Thanks again to all those who have given so generously under Grow Your Tenner and Triple Your Tenner, two initiatives which have proved to be very worthwhile for the Trust.

Legacies
Leaving a legacy to the Canal Trust
The Trust has benefited tremendously from money left to it in wills by generous members and supporters. It's not only the rich and famous who leave money to charity, as legacies of all sizes are the foundation for many UK good causes. If you have already made a will and would like to add the Trust as a beneficiary, a simple codicil (amendment) can be added = the Trust has a form you can use, (sample here). If you need a solicitor to help with this you can find one through lawsociety.org.uk. There is free advice for making a will at moneysavingexpert.com - search for "wills".
Advice and guidance on legacies for charities is available at rememberacharity.org.uk. Registered in England No. 1094232. Registered Charity No. CC265331
Gift Aid
Make sure you make the most of Gift Aid
The Wey & Arun Canal Trust benefits significantly from the Government’s Gift Aid scheme adding 25% to donations and subscriptions from UK tax payers. This allows charities to reclaim income tax on gifts – turning £10 into £12.50 at the basic rate. Higher-rate tax payers can attract additional benefits. You do not necessarily have to be working to have your donation topped up, as tax deducted at source from savings interest, tax on state and other pensions, tax on investment or rental income (including tax credits on UK dividends) and Capital Gains Tax also qualify.
If you are a member who is covered by Gift Aid but have not yet registered, please download a declaration form (click here). Print it out, fill in your details and send it to the Membership Secretary at the Trust’s Loxwood office. The Trust can also receive Gift Aid on items donated to be sold on its behalf, on eBay or at auction for example. We will claim on the amount WACT receives for the item. A special agreement form is required for this (click here to download). All future donations of goods will be covered once you have returned it to the Trust. We will contact you after the sale to inform you how much your donation was sold for and confirm that you are happy with the money going to the Trust. More information on Gift Aid, including how it affects higher-rate tax payers, is available at hmrc.gov.uk.
