The Wey & Arun Canal Trust is pleased to announce the official opening of its latest slipway (on the Summit Level of the canal near Alfold and Dunsfold, Surrey).

The slipway will be opened by the Mayor of Waverley, Councillor Denise Le Gal, in a ceremony on 30 September at 2pm.

The Trust is inviting boaters to join in the celebrations by bringing along canoes, kayaks, paddleboarders and other small craft - it will be possible to launch trailable boats via the slipway. Boat entries can be made via the website, www.weyarun.org.uk.

Construction on the slipway started in summer 2016 and moved into full swing in July 2017. All the work has been carried out by volunteers, under the leadership of site manager Dave Evans and project manager Tony Ford.

The project has cost in the region of £20,000, funded mainly by a donation from the Thriscutt family, and will be named the Sydney Thriscutt Slipway.
