The Wey & Arun Canal Trust has opened a pop-up shop in an historic building in Godalming, Surrey.
The high street shop, in Crown Court, will be used to showcase the Wey & Arun Canal’s history, publicise the Trust’s restoration plans and boat trips, and allow visitors to buy gifts and memberships during opening hours.
The 16th century building had been home to a family-run jewellers since the 1950s and the pop-up shop has been made possible thanks to the generosity of building's owners and Trust members the Donn family.
Wey & Arun Canal Trust chairman Sally Schupke said the pop-up shop was an ideal opportunity to increase awareness of the Trust and its work, and let more people know about the valuable amenity on their doorstep. She added: “The restored canal offers so many benefits, from walking to boating to bird-watching, and the opening of the pop-up shop is a fantastic way to make people aware of this and the Trust’s ongoing restoration plans.
“We are immensely grateful to owner Chris Donn and his family for giving us this opportunity.”
The shop is currently being manned by volunteers from 2pm to 4pm on Wednesdays, but the Trust is on the hunt for more helpers to allow it to open for longer. If you have a few hours to spare, call our northern office on 01483 505566 or email support@weyandarun.co.uk.
