Between 1816 & 1872 the Wey & Arun Junction Canal formed the final link in a chain of inland waterways connecting London to the English Channel at Littlehampton; this walk introduces participants to the route of the canal from its junction with the River Wey to Bramley, Surrey.

Sunday 18 September 2022, the final day of Heritage Open Days 2022.

An out-and-back walk, mostly segregated from motor traffic, beginning and ending at WACT’s Information Centre in Shalford. The route includes part of the alignment of the former Guildford-Horsham railway line (Wey-South and Downs Link paths).

5km there and back. Well-behaved dogs on leads welcome.

Free parking in large lay-by alongside junction of A281 Horsham Road and Trunley Heath Road

Travel advice:

From the free car park, cross Horsham Road on foot via central refuge to Wey-South Path, Information Centre is on the right via ramped boardwalk. There is no Sunday bus service along Horsham Road; Shalford rail station is 1km north via Horsham Road.

 

As the route is largely on footpaths and footpath/cycleway walking boots or stout walking shoes are advised.
