Major damage to the Canal at Loxwood
During the night of 1st/2nd April the restored Wey & Arun Canal in Loxwood suffered serious criminal damage. The damage may cost more than £50,000 to repair.
Electrical control equipment for pumps was destroyed and water was released from the canal. Multiple pumping control locations were attacked and padlocks on canal locks removed. Sussex Police are investigating. This malicious attack will cause disruption to our popular boat trips and may result in disappointment for those planning to enjoy a trip on the peaceful canal.
The Trust is launching a fundraising campaign to help meet the costs of repairs and lost income from cancelled boat trips. The Canal Trust is a charity and a volunteer-led organisation, and does not receive any regular support from public funds.
