The canal corridor through the beautiful Sussex and Surrey countryside provides a natural link between a rich variety of habitats. Autumn wildlife 

On warm autumn days you may still be lucky and still see the occasional butterfly and dragonfly.

Berries are plentiful, providing food for the birds. Birds that may be seen include Blackbirds, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Long Tailed Tits, Great Spotted Woodpeckers, Goldfinches, Greenfinches, Nuthatches, Song Thrushes, Robins and Wrens. Look out for some of the less common birds such as Coal Tits, Green Woodpeckers, Marsh Tits, Mistle Thrushes and Treecreepers.

Autumn migrants are beginning to arrive including Redwings, Fieldfares, Bramblings, Blackcaps, Siskins and Redpolls.

Kingfishers and Grey Herons have recently been seen. Look in the sky for Kestrels, Buzzards and Red Kites.

Coots, Moorhens, ducks and Swans may be seen on the water.

Deer, foxes and other mammals can sometimes be seen on the towpath and in the adjacent fields.

Have a look for fungi along the canal towpath, on trees and tree stumps.
